VOLUNTEER

Parent Teacher Associations – PTAs- have been helping principals and school administrators partner with parents, teachers, and school communities for more than a century.  In its early stages, “PTA Moms” would hold bake sales for school supplies, volunteer in the classroom, and offer support where needed.  Today, it has become a national non-profit organization that consists of parents of all career types, businesses, community leaders, as well as teachers and administrators.  It focuses on the education, health, and welfare of children as well as promoting parent involvement in schools.

At Manatee Bay Elementary, the PTA is involved with a multitude of programs. Volunteers are in the classroom, they run the Book Fair, help students in the cafeteria as “Lunch Buddies”, assist with Field Week, Family Fun Events and so much more.  In addition, we sponsor school programs such as Extra-Curricular clubs, FCAT camps, Scholastic News, Principal’s Honor Roll, Student Agendas, Teacher Appreciation Week, just to list a few.  We also sponsor enrichment programs such as Math Superstars, Meet the Masters Art Program, Author Visits, and the Book Fair.

WE NEED PARENTS IN OUR SCHOOL!!  Research clearly confirms that when parents are partners in their children’s education, the results are, improved student achievement, better school attendance, reduced dropout rates and decreased delinquency.  Although we all lead busy lives, we must respond to the needs of our children NOW.  Make the effort today by committing to give at least three hours of your time.  Whether it’s reading with your child, or volunteering in the school library, dedicating your time will make a tremendous difference.  Believe me, every hour that you give will make a difference in the lives of ALL of our children.

"We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give." – Winston Churchill
